They can handle big rocks being thrown at them!
Wayne Cracknell, manager of CT Contracting Ltd in Patoka, Hawke’s Bay, has been in business for 15 years. He’s navigated some tough terrain in that time, but nothing could prepare him for the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle, which hit Hawke’s Bay hard in February 2023. What he needed was a robust, reliable solution to help him move mountains. Perhaps not literally, but the rocks, shale and dirt he was faced with in the first few months of post-cyclone clean-up certainly felt momentous.
A visit to The Fieldays last year gave Wayne the opportunity to compare the price and quality of the Titan HT Hardox (HT3600) trailer with other brands. Wayne says that while the HT3600 is not cheap, it has proven to be good value for money. Such value in fact that a matter of weeks later Wayne bought a second trailer to add to the CT Contracting arsenal.
“I traded in the loader wagon three weeks later and got the other one,” Wayne explains.
Wayne says their original loader trailers aren’t missed by CT Contracting at all. The conversation with the 4AG team at Fieldays helped Wayne find what he needed and the HT3600 he purchased soon proved his greatest asset, capable of moving 27 tonne loads of shale over steep, rough terrain.
“They can handle big rocks being thrown at them!” says Wayne, summing up the trailers’ durability. Any concerns Wayne had at first over the unit’s capability on the hills have proven to be unfounded. He says he is deeply impressed by the speed and stability on steep terrain.
“I had initial concern over how they would handle the terrain we have here, I’ve been blown away by the stability on hills, we’re really happy with them.”
The HT3600 with removable silage bin has added capacity for rock and earth movements as well as replacing purpose-built silage loader trailers. The trailers, once converted with the silage box, have certainly sped-up the silage harvest.
“They go places on hills that loader wagons wouldn’t, and they make unloading silage quick and easy, plus the build quality is excellent,” Wayne explains.
“I have to be honest, I initially thought they were expensive but that is borne out by superior build quality compared with others we’ve seen at Fieldays. Overall, it’s good value,” says Wayne, who adds that the team at 4AG made the process straightforward.
“The service from 4AG is great, and Darren and Hamish are top-rate to deal with,” says Wayne. “Whenever I rang, any issues were dealt with straight away. Not that the trailers have given us any trouble!”
